Early Intervention

Employees instinctively believe that grievance managers and internal processes unfairly favor company interests, so they often resort to defensive and distrustful behaviors that can ignite similar responses in management. Conflict managers will often ask me, a third-party neutral, to intervene before everyone locks into their adversarial positions. The intent is to ensure both the perception and the reality of fairness that must precede meaningful and honest dialogue between the participants.

Depending upon the situation, I will recommend a resolution strategy that will achieve the desired result while minimizing the impact on a company’s normal operations.

Transformative Mediation

Another conflict situation that is particularly troublesome occurs when two or more highly valued employees are at odds. It may be a complex turf war or a simple clash of personalities. In any event, the conflict has become highly emotional and is hurting productivity.
These cases are ideal for the Transformative Mediation Model, which emphasizes personal growth and healing of the relationship, not merely a cessation of hostilities. I earned my transformative mediation certification through the Institute for the Study of Conflict Transformation at Hofstra University’s School of Law.

Group Training

The workplace has become the primary meeting ground for people of highly diverse personal characteristics and backgrounds. What follows are the inevitable clashes of decision styles, communication patterns, expectations, behaviors, priorities, role definitions, and leadership styles.
These conflicts may turn positive or negative, creative or destructive, depending upon the nature of the workplace culture. Accordingly, I provide customized training programs designed to proactively improve the culture by improving employee attitudes and skills regarding diversity and conflict.

Anti-Sexual Harassment Training: I am also certified to provide workplace anti-sexual harassment training as required by California law.

Personal Coaching

I provide individual coaching for key employees who may need to improve their conflict competency or are having difficulty assimilating. Often my primary task as a coach is to help troubled employees align their personal goals, job duties, and behaviors. To maintain confidentiality, coaching may occur by telephone or away from the workplace
